Research

Health services research is a multidisciplinary field that examines the intersection of social, economic, and organizational factors on health care access, quality, cost, and outcomes.

Our work touches populations at all ages and stages of life, impacting individuals, families, communities, organizations and institutions.

The Department of Health Services, Policy & Practice at Brown's School of Public Health is committed to advancing the field of health services through its faculty members' engagement in pioneering research. Our department's research portfolio covers a diverse range of topics, including health care delivery systems, health care financing, patient safety and quality of care, health policy, and health technology assessment.

Each year, our department secures significant external research funding, supporting a broad range of research activities across the department. This includes funding through the Center for Gerontology and Healthcare Research and the Center for Evidence Synthesis in Health. Our faculty members collaborate with a variety of stakeholders, including other academic departments at Brown University, Rhode Island state government agencies, the Veterans Administration Medical Center, and Brown affiliated hospitals.

Through our research and collaborations, we develop evidence-based policy analysis and interventions that improve health outcomes for diverse populations. The Department of Health Services, Policy & Practice is committed to promoting equity and access in health care, and our research reflects this commitment.
